Our beginning
Why CARD Was Founded
CARD was established on 22 May 1998 to combat poverty in rural areas, particularly in central Chin State. It was formed to support remote communities facing isolation, food insecurity, low agricultural productivity, limited technical knowledge and environmental degradation.
The organisation was created in response to challenges associated with prolonged shifting cultivation and slash-and-burn farming, including:
- Deforestation
- Soil degradation
- Low crop yields
- Food insecurity
- Limited agricultural knowledge
- Low household income
