Who We Are

Community Association for Rural Development (CARD) was established on 22 May 1998 to combat poverty in rural and remote areas of Chin State, Myanmar. CARD is Non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organisation based on the Christian community.

CARD is registered at Chin State level (Registered at Chin State level in 2015) and is led by Khar Ling (Director and Contact Person).

CARD's primary sectors of work are food security, nutrition, health, livelihood development, delivered through community-based programs across rural Chin State.

CARD proudly recognises Jacob Thang (Cung Hlei Thang) — a prominent Australian community leader, social entrepreneur and former refugee from Myanmar — for his outstanding contributions to supporting, training, mentoring and employing migrant and refugee communities in Victoria.

From fleeing military persecution in Myanmar to becoming the 2026 Brimbank Citizen of the Year, Jacob's journey is a testament to resilience, service and community leadership.
